TRIO SSS

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program that provides services to help eligible students — based on income, first-generation college student status, academic needs, or physical and developmental disabilities — succeed in earning a degree. As a TRIO student, you will receive support services to help you succeed at SUNY Adirondack.
Benefits of TRIO SSS
  • Tutoring, which might include instruction in reading, writing, study skills, mathematics, science and other subjects;
  • Dedicated advisor to provide individualized counseling and support;
  • Advice and assistance in post-secondary course selection;
  • Assistance in researching financial aid programs, benefits and scholarships;
  • Help completing financial aid applications (including FAFSA and TAP);
  • Workshops on personal development, career exploration, financial literacy and study skills;
  • Career and transfer counseling, including industry visits and internships;
  • Four college site visits annually for students interested in transferring to a bachelor's degree program;
  • Access to textbook lending library, laptops, graphing calculators, photography cameras and C pens
Eligibility requirements

To receive assistance, students must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a program of postsecondary education at a grantee institution. Low-income students who are first-generation college students and students with disabilities evidencing academic need are eligible to participate in SSS projects. Two-thirds of the participants in any SSS project must be both from lower-income families AND first-generation college students.

For family units with more than eight members, add $6,720 for each additional family member. The term "low-income individual" means one whose family's taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level designation. The figures shown under family income represent amounts equal to 150 percent of the family income levels established by the Census Bureau for determining poverty status.
