Brightspace

SUNY Adirondack uses Brightspace as its Digital Learning Environment (DLE). You can access your syllabi, see and submit classroom assignments, and connect with professors.

Students can access Brightspace by logging into the MySUNYADK Portal and clicking on the Brightspace icon in the green menu bar at the top of the page.

Brightspace how to

For some assignments, your professor might mark up comments on a file you submitted or give you audio or video feedback about your work. You can access the feedback in those Attached Files in two ways:

  • Access feedback from Update Alerts
    • Click on the "Update Alerts" bell icon.
    • Select the link for the alert you wish to view.
    • Scroll down to the "Attached Files" section and click on the link for each attached file to view, watch, or listen to them.
  • Access feedback from the "Course Activity" page. 
    • Select "Assignments" from the Course Activities menu.
    • In the Evaluation Status column, click the "Unread" or "Read" link.
    • Scroll down to the "Attached Files" section and click on the link for each attached file to view, watch or listen to them.

For some quizzes, your professor might provide written feedback about your quiz answers or allow you to view the questions you got correct or wrong.

Any overall feedback about the quiz will be listed under "Grades," as well as at the bottom of the attempt information page. To see feedback about specific questions:

  • Access feedback from the Course Activity page by:
    • Selecting "Assignments" from the Course Activities menu.
    • In the Evaluation Status column, click the "Unread," "Read" or "On Attempt" link.
    • Then follow step 4 below under “NEXT.”
  • Access feedback from Class Progress by:
    • In Brightspace, select "Class Progress" from the Gradebook menu in the green navigation bar.
    • Scroll down to the Quizzes section of the summary view and click the "Graded Attempts" accordion fold to view each graded quiz.
    • Then follow step 4 below under “NEXT.”

Next:

  • Click the blue link to the Attempt you want to view. A new window will pop up.
  • Click on the "View question feedback" link for each question to view the feedback from the faculty to the student.
  • If the instructor provided feedback as a video or audio file, or as an attachment, it will be available in the Attachment section at the bottom of the feedback page.
  • Login to Brightspace, then click your name in the upper-righthand corner.
  • Select "Notifications." Brightspace provides two contact methods: email and phone. By default, your SUNY Adirondack email address will be used for all email notifications.
  • To have notifications sent to your phone, click "Register my mobile" and follow the prompts.
  • Select your preferred method of notification (email or SMS) for each listed action in a course. We recommend you opt in to Announcements and opt out of notifications for Content. This will keep your email inbox and/or text message inbox easier to manage.
  • Set any Custom Notifications and choose any courses to exclude from your notification settings. We recommend you check "Allow future courses to send me notifications."
  • Click "Save."
     

To view your grades:

  • Click on the link for your course in Brightspace.
  • Click on the "Gradebook" menu in the green navigation bar in your course.
  • Select "Grades" to see your current grades and feedback from faculty. You’ll see a list of all the items you have been or will be graded on.
    • When your grade and feedback is released by your professor, there will be an orange dot on the "Update Alerts" bell icon.
    • If your professor has set up the gradebook to calculate your overall grade to date, it will be listed below the words Final Calculated Grade. (Note: You will still need to complete all the work and meet all the requirements for the semester to earn your  final grade. Your official final grade will be posted in Banner at the end of the semester. The grade listed here is just based on the work you’ve done so far in the semester.)
    • Your grade for each assignment, discussion, quiz, exam, etc., will be listed in the Grade column.
    • Overall Feedback from your professor about your work will be listed in the Comments and Assessments column.
