Bookkeeper

These microcredentials provide students with knowledge and skills to manage small-business financial operations.

Small-Business Operations Bookkeeper

These skills and competencies include but are not limited to preparing classified financial statements related to current and long-term assets and liabilities, inventories, equity statements and cash flow analysis. The student will also be capable of operating advanced computer accounting software programs, such as QuickBooks, tracking revenue and expenses, controlling and protecting data, invoicing time and progress billing, processing accounts receivables and payables, invoicing, and time and payroll accounting practices. 

Required courses are:

  • BUS 146 Financial Accounting
  • BUS 156 QuickBooks Microcomputer Applications
  • BUS 231 Advanced Bookkeeping Applications
     

This microcredential:

  • Comprises nine credits;
  • Is able to be completed in two semesters;
  • Costs $231 per credit, or a total of $2,079, plus textbooks and college fees;
  • Is offered free through grant funding for qualifying individuals;
  • Advance standing is offered for those with relevant work experience;
  • Prepares students to take the National Certification Bookkeepers (NCB) exam;
  • Prepares students to take QuickBooks certification exam by Intuit

Part-time TAP for non-degree programs eligibility

This microcredential course is eligible to have the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) for non-degree programs grant cover a portion of the cost of tuition, as long as you are economically eligible as follows and meet other requirements, including:

  • $125,000 for dependent undergraduate students, independent students who are married and have tax dependents, or independent students who are unmarried and have tax dependents
  • $60,000 for married independent undergraduate students who have no other dependents
  • $30,000 for unmarried independent undergraduate students with no dependents

If you believe you earn less than the amount listed in the criteria above, you should apply by completing the FAFSA and TAP applications. Please note you have a lifetime of eight semesters of TAP. These will be prorated for the number of credits you earn, but will use a portion of your lifetime TAP eligibility.
