Scholarships

This group of scholarships is supported by income generated from the Foundation’s endowment, fundraising events and an annual giving campaign. There are four types of scholarships funded by the Foundation:

• Academic Excellence Scholarships for recent high school graduates
• SUNY Adirondack Foundation Scholarships for new and returning students
• Foundation Access Scholarships for College Academy students in high school
• EOP Summer Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to incoming and returning students. They were established in conjunction with local foundations or through provisions in a will. 

• Glens Falls Foundation Lenetta Pesquera Nursing and Arts Scholarships: These annual scholarships in Nursing and the arts are provided by Glens Falls Foundation and are supported by the proceeds from an endowment established by Mrs. Lennetta Pesquera. Students must be accepted to SUNY Adirondack and have completed their FAFSA by March 1 to be considered.
• William and Elsie Hill Scholarship: Established by the Hill Family, half-tuition scholarships are awarded to graduates of Fort Edward High School with a minimum GPA of 75. Once enrolled at SUNY Adirondack, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to maintain eligibility. Students must be accepted to SUNY Adirondack and have completed their FAFSA by March 1 to be considered.
• William & Elsie Hill Returning Adult Student Scholarship: Established by the Hill Family, these award $500 each semester for full-time students (pro-rated for part-time students) who are graduates of Fort Edward High School with a minimum GPA of 75. Students must be at least 22 years of age Jan. 1 of the academic year to which they are applying. Once enrolled at SUNY Adirondack, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to maintain eligibility.
• Evelyn and Paul Robinson Foundation Scholarships: These include two $1,200 scholarships for engineering students and two for nursing students. Students must be accepted to SUNY Adirondack and have completed their FAFSA by March 1 to be considered.
• SUNY Adirondack named scholarships

High school students enrolled in the College Academy Program who are eligible for free or reduced lunch can receive a scholarship so cost of their first course is reduced to $50. Please refer to the College Academy Registration Form for more information.

To be considered for an Academic Excellence Scholarship (AES), a student must:

1. Graduate from one of the participating North Country high schools (see list below)
2. Apply and be accepted to SUNY Adirondack AND complete the FAFSA by March 1
3. Rank in the top 10 percent of his/her high school class at the end of his/her junior year
4. Have a high school average of at least 90 at the end of his/her junior year
5. Enroll as a full-time student in the Fall semester immediately following graduation.    

This scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis and will be evaluated during the month of March. Students who do not receive the AES will be considered for several other scholarships. Students who receive the Academic Excellence Scholarship and who maintain their eligibility will receive the scholarship for four consecutive semesters, with no deferments.

Maintaining eligibility
To maintain eligibility, a student must:

• Maintain full-time (12 credits or more) enrollment.
• Earn a 3.0 minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) during the first semester and thereafter maintain a 3.2 Cumulative Quality Point Average (CQPA) or higher.

These scholarships were established by the Foundation to provide financial assistance to students who have financial need. They are available to new and returning students. New students must apply and be accepted to the college by March 1.  All students must submit their FAFSA by March 1.

Award: The Foundation provides $20,000 annually to the Office of Financial Aid to award to eligible students. Those who maintain their eligibility in the Fall semester receive the same $500 award for the Spring semester.

Requirements: To be considered for the SUNY Adirondack Foundation Scholarship, applicants are required to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, the SUNY Adirondack Financial Aid Supplement form and submit some additional information as requested by the Financial Aid Office.

To maintain this scholarship, recipients are required to: Maintain a 2.5 GPA and file the FAFSA each year by March 1.

Award process: The Office of Financial Aid decides on the eligibility of candidates and selects recipients based on unmet financial need.
