Love where you learn

The region surrounding SUNY Adirondack's beautiful campus is a year-round destination for travelers from throughout the United States and beyond. The region's cultural, athletic and recreational offerings are second only to its incomparable natural beauty.

Look at a map and you'll see Queensbury is located ideally, no matter your interests.

We're in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and closely neighbor the Green Mountains of Vermont, so hiking, skiing, golfing, climbing, fishing, camping and other outdoor adventures are a short drive away.

Glens Falls, a charming little city with great restaurants — including Seasoned, our student-run restaurant — and cultural institutions, is just a few miles down Route 9, on a bus route and even walkable.

Lake George — nicknamed Queen of American Lakes, commonly atop lists of the nation's most beautiful bodies of water and frequently recognized for its environmental cleanliness — is just 15 minutes to the north.

Saratoga Springs is just 20 minutes south, offering world-famous horse racing, natural springs and a vibrant downtown.

New York City, Boston and Montreal are all just less than four hours away, so weekend getaways for a big-city fix are easy.

Something for everyone

SUNY Adirondack has the best of everything: we're rural enough that stars stretch across the night sky without light pollution, but close enough to shops that you can easily pick up what you need.

SUNY Adirondack's Queensbury campus is located just a few miles south of the Adirondack Park, a 6 million-acre haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Possibilities for things to do — hike, ski, snowboard, swim, water ski, hunt, fish, kayak, camp — are limited only by your interests!

Ski and board

Whether you're just learning or a seasoned pro, our region's mountains offer terrain for you. Just a few:

  • Gore Mountain is less than 30 miles from campus and boasts more than 150 acres of open terrain
  • Killington Resort and Pico Mountain, among the largest ski resorts in the Northeast, is 80 minutes away
  • West Mountain is 6.1 miles away and offers skiing, boarding, tubing and biking
  • Whiteface Mountain, near Lake Placid, home of the 1980 Winter Olympics, is about an hour and a half trip into some of the most beautiful country you will ever see
  • Willard Mountain is a family-friendly ski hill less than a half-hour from campus

Biking

Terrain is diverse, with Warren County Bikeway offering a paved 9-plus miles from downtown Glens Falls to Lake George, and nearby Rush Pond and Gurney Lane providing thrills for mountain bikers. Adirondack Cycling Advocates offer several options for you to hit the trails. If you're looking to enjoy the gorgeous Saratoga Springs region, Saratoga.com has listings of great places.

Walking

Our region is peppered with well-maintained walking trails to enjoy the natural world. There are too many to list, near all three of our facilities!

Hiking

If you have a few hours or a few days, there are adventures all around us! Try a small mountain if you're a beginner; tackle a hiking challenge (Lake George 12ster or Fire Tower Challenge, anyone?) as you strengthen your skills; or head to the High Peaks if you're an experienced outdoorsman!

Glens Falls, Saratoga Springs and Lake George Village are the most prominent, but local small towns throughout Warren, Washington and northern Saratoga counties offer charming downtowns to explore.

Our Queensbury campus is less than five minutes from a strip of factory outlet stores to the north and thoroughfare lined with retailers — including chain restaurants and locally owned dining establishments — to the southwest.

SUNY Adirondack Saratoga is about 10 minutes from downtown Saratoga Springs, with small boutiques and shops, and tons of great eateries, and Wilton, with chain retailers and restaurants.

The Culinary Center and Seasoned, our student-run restaurant, in downtown Glens Falls is surrounded by small shops and locally owned restaurants.

Our campus sits in the heart of a region that helped shape the nation. Along the Hudson and Mohawk rivers, on the shores of Lake Champlain, and in historic communities like Ticonderoga, Crown Point and Saratoga Springs, history isn’t confined to textbooks — it’s all around you. With Revolutionary War landmarks, preserved battlefields and vibrant downtowns, this is a place where the past feels present and learning extends far beyond the classroom.
