QUEENSBURY, New York (March 18, 2025) — SUNY Adirondack student Tyrese Brown was named a 2025 Coca-Cola Academic Team Bronze Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars with nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each scholar also receives a commemorative medallion.
“The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding students at community colleges,” said Jane Hale Hopkins, president of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa to make it possible for more deserving students to achieve their educational goals and support tomorrow’s global community leaders.”
Students are nominated for the academic team by their college administrators. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership and engagement in college and community service.
Brown, of Glens Falls and a native of Jamaica, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa at SUNY Adirondack; student trustee on the college's Board of Trustees; a peer coach; a tutor in math, biology and chemistry for Upward Bound students; a member of Senate (formerly the vice president of business and finance); on the Faculty Student Association board as a member of the Adirondack Housing Association Committee; a lab technician; and part of an independent study that will be presented at the SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC) hosted by Binghamton University.
"Tyrese is a motivated and compassionate student, with a future that holds endless possibilities," said Emily Goodspeed, advisor to SUNY Adirondack's chapter of PTK and associate professor of Library Science.
Coca-Cola Academic Team members are recognized in local and statewide ceremonies. They will also be recognized internationally April 3-5 during Phi Theta Kappa’s annual convention, PTK Catalyst, in Kansas City, Missouri.
“We thank the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation for recognizing these student leaders and for investing in their futures,” said Lynn Tincher-Ladner, president and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa. “Scholarships like these are integral to the success of these students in reaching their educational and career goals.”
Brown is a Liberal Arts: Math and Science major who plans to become an orthopedic surgeon.
