QUEENSBURY, New York (July 28, 2025) — SUNY Adirondack Foundation is proud to announce its inclusion in the 2025 New York State Charitable Tax Credit Program, administered through SUNY Impact Foundation. Applications for the program open Monday, Aug. 4.

The initiative was created by New York state to encourage philanthropic support of public higher education institutions. Eligible donors — those who pay more than $10,000 in New York state taxes — may contribute between $10,000 and $100,000 to SUNY Adirondack and receive a significant tax credit in return.

Gifts may be designated to any SUNY Adirondack priority, such as student scholarships, academic programs or campus enhancements. Accepted forms of donation include wire transfers, ACH payments, credit cards (with an additional 3 percent fee paid by the donor), and stocks or securities. Please note that checks cannot be accepted and credit card fees do not count toward the tax credit amount.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for donors to amplify their impact on student success while receiving meaningful tax benefits,” said Liz Lastowski, director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations at SUNY Adirondack. “We are honored to be part of this statewide initiative to strengthen SUNY campuses.”

For the total qualified gift made, the donor receives:

  • New York state: A credit and deduction on NYS tax filing for 2025: 85 percent of the qualified contribution can be a tax credit and 15 percent of the qualified contribution can be an itemized charitable donation. Donors receive the benefit of both a deduction and a credit on their NYS tax filing. The receipt(s) issued once the donation is received will include a 15-digit receipt number which must be used with the state income tax filing, Donors can claim this tax credit on their income tax return, even if using tax preparation software.
  • Federal: Fifteen percent of the qualified contribution can be an itemized charitable deduction.

All donations are subject to a 2 percent administrative fee by SUNY Impact Foundation. Donations through family foundations, donor-advised funds and S-Corporations are not eligible.

There is a $10 million donation cap for the program, and the SUNY Impact Foundation will begin processing applications Oct. 1. By Oct. 10, authorizations will be emailed to donors. Donations must be made before Nov. 26, 2025; stock orders must be placed for transfer by Nov. 21, 2025.

This is not an automatic program; donors must contact SUNY Adirondack Foundation and be referred to the SUNY Impact Foundation by Sept. 30 to complete an online application. Please note that completing the application does not oblige a donation.
