Biography

Dr. Renee O'Brien is an artist-photographer-educator. Her academic background is extensive and includes working with alternative photographic processes. Her doctoral dissertation, "The Post-Romantic Vision of Contemporary Pinhole Photographers," is a study on pinhole (lensless) photography within the framework of photographic history and aesthetics. She is chair of the Arts, Media and Culture Division; professor of Photography at SUNY Adirondack; and longtime mentor/instructor at SUNY Empire State College. At SUNY ADK, Dr. O'Brien teaches Media Arts: Culture and History, Photography I, Photojournalism, Photographic Project Development, Media Arts Portfolio Development and First Year Seminar. She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA), the oldest women’s fine art organization in the country.

Ph.D. in Arts & Arts Professions from New York University; master's degree in Communicaton Arts from New York Institute of Technology; Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Hofstra University
