"I see teaching of languages as extending an invitation for students to explore the diversity of cultures in the French- and Spanish-speaking worlds. My goal is to enlarge students’ cultural, historical and political understanding of the world, alongside their language skills, to connect what they learn in class to the world around them."
Biography
Adriana Umaña Hossman is an assistant professor of World Languages at SUNY Adirondack and has been implementing COIL in her language courses since 2020. She teaches French and Spanish and also serves as the Arts, Media and Culture Division's liaison to the College in the High School Program. She was recognized with SUNY Adirondack's President's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2023.
Education
Ph.D. in French Studies from Rice University, 2017; Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and French from the University of Houston, 2000
