QUEENSBURY, New York (April 15, 2026) — As Will Fowler pored through submissions of artwork in SUNY Adirondack’s Visual Arts Gallery, he felt a bit like he was traveling back in time.
“Having been part of this exhibition as a student nearly 20 years ago, it was an honor — and a true ‘full-circle’ moment — to return as a judge,” said Fowler, partner and creative director at Sidekick Creative, who acted as juror in this year’s SUNY Adirondack Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition.
The show kicks off with an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the Visual Arts Gallery, Dearlove Hall. Student awards will be presented and students will read works from this year’s Expressions Magazine at 5 p.m.
“All the submissions reflect the incredible creativity of the student artists, as well as the strength of the academic departments,” Fowler said.
The exhibition runs through May 13 and features 56 works of art selected from more than 125 submissions of photography, sculpture, graphic design, drawing, illustration, painting and more. “I was especially impressed by the depth of skill, craft and concept demonstrated by students,” Fowler said.
Also on view in the Visual Arts Gallery is a Harmonograph, a mechanical device that uses pendulums to create complex geometric curves/ellipses drawings, which was created by the MECS (Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science) Club; and a 1,000 Origami Cranes display created by members of the on-campus Origami Club.
Fowler selected “Grace,” an acrylic painting by Grace Wilson created for Life Drawing class as Best in Show; honorable mentions were given to Charlotte Maben for “Chameleon,” a digital illustration created in Topics in Media Arts, and Julieana Joss for “Unconventional Diva,” a papier-mâché work created in 3-D Design.
The Visual Arts Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
