SUNY Adirondack offers Coffee with a Cop

Local law enforcement, NAACP, college foster open discussion at free event

QUEENSBURY, New York (March 31, 2025) — SUNY Adirondack’s Counseling Division hosts Coffee with a Cop, a community-building opportunity for discussion, at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in Bryan Hall, Room 128.

Featuring members of Glens Falls NAACP, Campus Safety and regional law enforcement agencies, this casual conversation is designed to open dialogue and foster belonging.

“SUNY Adirondack is becoming more racially diverse, and we want the students to know the area and the area to know them,” said Lee Braggs, vice president of the local branch of NAACP and a member of the college’s Board of Trustees.

Braggs was among members of the community who initiated this event after highly publicized police brutality cases around the country led to civil unrest. This year’s discussion is an expansion of smaller events in the past.

“We want law enforcement agencies — we invited more agencies, Glens Falls PD, Warren County Sheriff, Washington County Sheriff, the DA’s office, across the board, not just patrolmen — to participate,” said Braggs, who has lived in this area for more than 40 years.

“Census data shows us that our surrounding counties — Warren, Washington and Saratoga — are about 95 percent white, compared to our campus population of nearly 16 percent students of color,” said Lindsay Farrar, multicultural specialist counselor at SUNY Adirondack. “That really demonstrates the importance of understanding our similarities and differences to enhance all of our well-being.”

Coffee with a Cop is free and open to the public.

“Local law enforcement is very forthcoming, very cooperative,” Braggs said. “They’ve always been very conscious of our views. We want to avoid concerns down the road.”
