SUNY Adirondack hosts annual Veterans Day ceremony
Commemoration of veterans is free and open to the public
QUEENSBURY, New York (Nov. 8, 2022) — SUNY Adirondack is proud to announce its annual Veterans Day commemoration at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the college.
The ceremony begins with opening remarks from Ryan Thomas, advisor to the Veterans Club and United States Air Force veteran, and proceeds with Posting of the Colors and Invocation by American Legion Post No. 533 Color Guard of Corinth.
“SUNY Adirondack is always honored to host this incredible community event to honor our nation’s veterans and their families, and the many veteran alumni and students on campus,” said Taylor Testa, the college’s director of Student Engagement & Diversity and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
SUNY Adirondack Student Senate president Jacob Carpenter will sing the National Anthem.
Kristine D. Duffy, Ed.D., president of SUNY Adirondack, will offer a welcome, which will be followed by remarks from Carpenter; state Sen. Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury), a U.S. Navy veteran; Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner (D-Round Lake); and Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C,I-Horicon).
Jeremy Duers, coordinator of Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer to Peer Program for Washington and Warren counties and a veteran of the U.S. Marines, will speak regarding relaunch of the grant under SUNY Adirondack’s facilitation.
“This region has a strong history of serving the U.S. armed forces, creating a legacy of pride and honor,” Duers said. “It’s fitting, then, that SUNY Adirondack, an institution that since its founding more than 60 years ago has served veterans, offers such a poignant salute to the people who protect our freedom.”
A moment of silence will be marked, followed by Taps and a benediction by the Color Guard, a performance of “God Bless America” and retiring of the colors.
This free event is open to the public and will be held at the on-campus Veterans Memorial outside the south entrance to Adirondack Hall or, in the case of inclement weather, in Northwest Bay Conference Center in Adirondack Hall.
