Annual youth program includes new classes, longtime favorites.

QUEENSBURY, New York (May 31, 2023) — SUNY Adirondack has a perfect antidote for school break boredom: Summer Enrichment.
This year, the college expands offerings in its long-running program for children entering grades 4 through 10 with new classes that include computer programming, watercolors and rocket science.
“We look forward to bringing fun new ways for our youngest learners to pursue their passions and explore their interests,” said Susan Corlew, director of SUNY Adirondack’s Continuing Education and Workforce Innovation.
Summer Enrichment has been been popular since 1982, she said, because students love the experience and parents appreciate that while their kids are having fun, they’re also experiencing less of the "summer slide" learning loss common during long breaks.
“This program benefits children in ways beyond education and entertainment, providing opportunities to grow socially,” Corlew said.
Running Monday through Thursday, July 10 to 27, courses are offered from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. for two age groups, students entering fourth through sixth grades, and students entering seventh through 10th grades.
This year’s classes include American Sign Language for Beginners, Wild Watercolor Experience, Hands-On History, Forensic Science & Genetic Genealogy, Intro to Computer Programming, Adventures in Rocket Engineering, The Wonderful World of Science, Drawing and Painting Animals, Pokemon Battle Arena, Crystal Myths & Magic, All About Dogs, Drawing and Painting Exploration, Science Explorations, Mural Painting, Theater: Next Stage, Introduction to “Dungeons & Dragons,” Mystery Solved 2023, Bookbinding and Culinary Arts.
Classes range in price from $129 to $165 and culminate with a Summer Enrichment Showcase from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 27.
