SUNY Adirondack celebrates Women's History Month

GLENS FALLS, New York (March 28, 2023) — SUNY Adirondack wraps up its monthlong celebration of Women's History Month with two special events, Women in Leadership and Law at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday and The Women of Color Museum traveling exhibition Thursday.

"We are continuing to build an inclusive culture at SUNY Adirondack, and one of the ways we achieve that is by creating space for voices, experiences and contributions of the marginalized, in this case, women — no matter their walk of life," said Cornelius Gilbert, the college's chief diversity office. "We cannot allow their stories, lives, voices, experiences and contributions to be ignored or erased from history." 

Women in Leadership and Law features Kate Hogan, New York State Court of Claims judge, and Kathleen McCoy, distinguished professor of English at SUNY Adirondack and faculty advisor to the campus' branch of American Association of University Women. Free and open to the public, the discussion will be held in Scoville Learning Center, Room 206.

"I look forward to sharing data on the state of women's leadership, and to hearing the Honorable Kathleen Hogan discuss women in law," McCoy said.

The Women of Color Museum's traveling exhibition, "Women of Color — A Tribute to the Contributions of African-American Women," includes profiles of and artifacts related to prominent African-American women including Mary McLeod Bethune, Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, Angela Davis, Dr. Mae Jemison, Shirley Chisholm, Coretta Scott King, Oprah Winfrey, Condoleezza Rice and others who impacted history around the world.

The exhibition will be on display from 1 to 4 p.m. in Scoville Learning Center, and is free and open to the public.
