The Moira Smiley Trio will appear April 2 on the SUNY Adirondack Queensbury campus as part of the Pamela Firth Performing Artist Series.

The group will perform a concert at 12:45 p.m. in the SUNY Adirondack Theatre on the Queensbury campus. The event will be followed by a question-and-answer session and a workshop from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m.

All programming is free and open to the public.

Smiley also will collaborate with the college chorale to help the group prepare three of her works for a May 4 concert with the Symphonic Band and Appalachian Spring performance at Christ Church United Methodist in Glens Falls.  

Moira Smiley is a singer-composer who creates and performs new work for voices. Her work has been featured in films, BBC & PBS television programs, NPR and on more than 60 albums. Smiley accompanies herself with banjo, accordion, piano and percussive movement. Smiley leads various incarnations of her own groups, including Moira Smiley Trio and Moira Smiley & VOCO. She has toured with Indie artist tUnE-yArDs; Irish super-group, Solas; The Lomax Project; and Billy Childs’ Laura Nyro Re-Imagined.

Smiley’s recordings feature spare, vocally driven collections of traditional songs, original polyphony and body percussion. She is a well-known choral composer and arranger, with millions of singers around the world singing her works.
