Lecture series continues with focus on 'concepts' in education
QUEENSBURY (Nov. 9, 2021) — SUNY Adirondack presents “What Are Concepts For? Part 2: Making the Pandemic Intelligible,” a presentation in the college’s Lecture Series, at 12:40 p.m. Nov. 15.
Robert Faivre, professor of English at SUNY Adirondack, offers the second of two lectures based on an ongoing project in which he researched concepts in transdisciplinary writing labs. Faivre will present conclusions and hypotheses, as he unpacks the question “What are concepts for?” and explains the main movements of these writing labs.
Faivre will present students’ findings (centered on the core concepts for ENG 103 and 105, Writing in and about the Sciences and Writing in and about the Social Sciences, respectively) and key points from teaching and studying.
Student and faculty contributors to the study will be present.
Faivre earned a Ph.D. in English from University at Albany. He is co-editor of “A Human, All Too (Post)Human.” His critical essays have been published in various journals and anthologies. He is writing a chapter about pedagogy of pandemic for an upcoming book, “Marxism and Pandemic,” edited by Stephen Tumino. Faivre teaches writing for science, social sciences and modern drama, among other courses, at SUNY Adirondack.
