Acclaimed poet kicks off SUNY Adirondack Writers Project

Author Jay Rogoff will speak as part of the Spring 2025 Writers Project series

QUEENSBURY, New York (Jan. 21, 2025) — SUNY Adirondack proudly announces an exciting lineup of speakers for its Spring 2025 Writers Project.

Kicking off the free series is poet Jay Rogoff at 12:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, in the Visual Arts Gallery in Dearlove Hall on the college’s Queensbury campus.

Rogoff has published seven collections of poetry. His debut book, “The Cutoff,” was winner of the Word Works Washington Prize. Other books include “The Long Fault,” “The Art of Gravity,” “Venera," “Enamel Eyes” and, most recently, “Loving in Truth: New and Selected Poems.”

His “Becoming Poetry: Poets and Their Methods” won the Lewis P. Simpson Award for an outstanding work of literary criticism. His poetry and prose have appeared in such publications as AGNI, Georgia Review, Hopkins Review, Kenyon Review, Salmagundi and Southern Review.

He is also recipient of the Poetry Society of America’s John Masefield Award, the Robert Watson Poetry Prize for the chapbook “Danses Macabres,” and a Pushcart Prize. He is a widely published writer on dance, and his essay “Race, Taste, and Fred Astaire” appears in the latest issue of Salmagundi.

Rogoff worked at Skidmore College for 33 years and lives in Saratoga Springs.

The series continues with the following events, each held at 12:40 p.m. in the Visual Arts Gallery:

  • Monday, Feb. 10: American singer-songwriter, musician and recording artist Sean Rowe;
  • Monday, Feb. 24: Memoirist, audio book narrator and actor Marni Penning;
  • Monday, March 17: Poet David Graham;
  • Monday, April 7: Fantasy novelist Philip Chase;
  • Monday, April 28: Author and journalist Megan Mayhew-Bergman;
  • Wednesday, April 30: SUNY Adirondack Creative Writing majors will read from their works
    All Writers Project events are free and open to the public. They are also aired live via Zoom and can be watched at https://us06web.zoom.us/my/mccoyoffice.
