SUNY Adirondack offers a professional certificate in Radio Broadcasting.

Broadcasting is the practice of delivering audio and visual news and entertainment via mass media channels to a diverse audience; it is one of the largest sectors in the media industry and continues to evolve as a dynamic career path.


Students in the Radio Broadcasting certificate will learn to make radio impactful and exciting, taking specialized courses in digital audio production, radio station operation, broadcast writing and mass communication practices. Radio and Television Broadcasting is not only about learning communication skills but also teaches students the many skills required “behind the scene” for effective entertainment and information sharing over the air.

Those enrolled in the two-year degree will delve into the current trends and colorful history of radio and television, requiring students to learn how to write, shoot, edit and produce a variety of pieces from commercials to documentaries to news packages and more.


SUNY Adirondack offers small class sizes and access to dedicated faculty who have years of field experience in live, on-air broadcast media, video and film production and new media distribution. Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Discuss contemporary media issues from historical, cultural and social perspectives.
  2. Write effective persuasive, informative and entertaining messages of varying lengths using industry accepted writing style and formatting conventions.
  3. Perform on-air radio control room functions involving automation software, technical operation & monitoring and on-air performance.
  4. Plan, write and produce audio projects for on-air radio broadcast using industry-standard production equipment and software.
  5. Plan, write and produce single-camera video projects for on-air broadcast and DVD distribution using industry-standard production equipment and software.
  6. Define broadcast organizational structures, job responsibilities and reporting lines for local market radio and television stations.
  7. Discuss applicable FCC guidelines for on-air radio programming and station operation.
  8. Accurately use audience measurement terminology in discussions about radio programming.
