Registration Process

New Student Registration

Once a student has been accepted to SUNY Adirondack, paid their Registration Fee, and completed Placement Testing, they will be scheduled to meet individually with an academic counselor or advisor.  This very important “Educational Planning and Registration Appointment” has proven to be an effective tool for helping students make the transition into the College.

The purpose of the Educational Planning and Registration Appointment is to introduce the student to the academic journey and establish a relationship between college personnel and each new student.   Topics covered in this important interview include:

  • Student’s academic history including strengths and weaknesses
  • Review of High School transcript and Placement Testing Scores
  • Long and short term goals including career and transfer options
  • Any special needs the student may have
  • Student’s interests and activities
  • Education on pathways available to meet the student’s goals
  • College resources which support academic and career planning
  • Introduction and navigation of Banner, the College computer registration system
  • Time management and the academic responsibilities and expectations of college study
  • Student schedule needs including family and job responsibilities and transportation
  • The Freshman Experience Program and academic advisement
  • Degree plan and degree requirement worksheet
  • Payment of Tuition and Financial Aid requirements
  • Where to go for help and support once the semester begins
