Fitness Center Overview
 

The new Fitness Center is designed to offer fitness and wellness opportunities to a diverse population of students, faculty and staff at SUNY Adirondack. The programs offered will promote healthy lifestyles and physical wellness through group exercise sessions, fitness events, informal gym activities and access to the new state of the art fitness center located in the residence hall.

The Fitness Center and related programs main goals include:

  • provide the college community with a facility in which they can make positive use of their leisure time
  • influence the other dimensions of wellness while enhancing quality of personal and student life

Rules, Policies, and Procedures

By entering the SUNY Adirondack Fitness Center, you are entering at your own risk and agreed to abide by the policies and procedures set forth by the Fitness Center Supervisor, the SUNY Adirondack Code of Conduct and Office of Residence Life Handbook. Any participants’ failure to adhere to the fitness center policies and procedures, SUNY Adirondack Code of Conduct and Office of Residence Life Handbook will lose their privilege of using the facilities and may be subject to disciplinary action.

Membership Information

Individuals eligible to use the fitness facilities include:

  • Current students
  • Current faculty/staff

 

SUNY Adirondack Faculty/Staff Membership Process

*For Automatic Payroll Deduction:

1.     Obtain a SUNY Adirondack photo ID card.

2.     Fill out membership registration form and payroll deduction form.

3.     Bring SUNY Adirondack ID, completed registration form and completed payroll form to Fitness Center Supervisor, Room 161 in Residence Hall to obtain Fitness Center Membership Card.

 

*For Semester to Semester payments through the business office:

1.     Pay for membership fee at the bursar office in warren hall and obtain receipt of payment.

2.     Fill out membership registration form

3.     Bring Faculty/Staff ID, completed registration form and wellness fee payment receipt to Fitness Center Supervisor, Room 161 in Residence Hall to obtain Fitness Center Membership Card.

 

Plattsburgh Faculty/Staff Membership Process

1.     Pay for membership fee at the bursar office in warren hall and obtain receipt of payment.

2.     Fill out membership registration form

3.     Bring Student or Faculty/Staff ID, completed registration form and wellness fee payment receipt to Fitness Center Supervisor, Room 161 in Residence Hall to obtain Fitness Center Membership Card.

 

As a member of the SUNY Adirondack Fitness Center located in the Residence Hall on campus, you have access to the state of the art fitness center, all programs, events, and activities offered by the Fitness Center, including group exercise sessions, fitness/wellness events and open recreation time. 

Please Note: Students pay a $15.00 per semester Wellness Fee which is dedicated to the Fitness/Wellness Program. To use the facilities, students must present their SUNY Adirondack ID card to the Fitness Center Staff upon entering. Wellness Fee Waiver

Fitness Center Equipment Orientation

There are fitness center equipment orientations available to all current fitness centers member. The Fitness Center Supervisor will walk you through the entire facility, showing you each piece of equipment and recording your settings for each machine. Equipment orientations are available to help you familiarize yourself with the Weight and Cardio equipment in addition to ensuring proper use and safety and make you feel comfortable using the center.  To schedule an equipment orientation, see the Fitness Center Supervisor, Room 161 in the Residence Hall. Group Exercise Sessions

Group Exercise Sessions will be available at various times throughout the week during the semester. A calendar schedule of sessions and times will be posted as they become available.

Open Recreation

Open Rec hours are available in the Athletic Building Gymnasium for which students, faculty, and staff may participate in formalized intramural activities or tournaments as well as pickup games.

Employment Opportunities

 We hire student workers for employment in the fitness center. Please review the job description/employee responsibilities. Fill out an application and bring it to the Fitness Center Supervisor in Room 161 in the Residence Hall if you are interested in working in the Fitness Center. Note: ALL Students of SUNY Adirondack are eligible for employment in the Fitness Center.

The Strong Man Award for 2013 was awarded to Mike Davis (155 lbs.). Mike lifted a total of 795 lbs. for all three lifts (squat, bench press and deadlift). He lifted 5.13 pounds per pound of body weight.
