The 2015 Region III Golf Championship was held at the SUNY Delhi Golf Course on May 11-12, 2015.  Zack Leland, from SUNY Adirondack, was the medalist from the 44 college golfers who qualified for this event, representing twelve colleges in Region III of the National Junior College Athletic Association JCAA.  Zack had rounds of 74 and 75 (149) over the course of two rounds.  He entered this tournament with the lowest scoring average of any golfer in Region III for the entire season (75).  Based on this performance, Zack qualifies to participate in the NJCAA National Golf Championship that will be held June 1-5, 2015 in Chautauqua, NY.

The Varsity Golf Team finished their regular season with post-season play scheduled in two weeks,  In spite of adverse Spring weather, the players persevered and played in six regular season tournaments.  A pre-season trip to Virginia during Spring Break gave our players a chance to play and practice outdoors and as the season progressed, so did the quality of their golf games.  All our players showed significant improvement during the season as they travelled across the State to compete.  The high point of the season was the play of Zack Leland who played in six tournaments and won three of them and finished 2nd in two others.  This is golf at its high level and included a three under par 67 in his last tournament.   The other players on the team, Mike Ricci and Des Crandall also played well and improved their games during the season.  Des dropped 25 strokes in his scores from the beginning of the season to the end and Mike qualified to play in the State Regional tournament by shooting a79 in his last tournament.

Zack and Mike now move on to the Regional golf tournament that will be held May 10-11-12 in Delhi, NY.  These players could then advance to The National Junior College Golf Championship that is scheduled for June 3-7 in Jamestown NY.
